2023 Get Started Right Writing Challenge: Next Steps
So you’ve completed the 2023 Get Start Right Writing Challenge, now what? This post shares next steps and a January 20 deadline.
If you're reading this post, I'm assuming you've completed the 2023 Get Started Right Writing Challenge (and if you didn't, well, try it out next year). If that is the case, then congratulations! I hope it brought great intrinsic value to getting your 2023 started off on the right foot.
But there's also that extrinsic prize: All people who successfully completed the challenge are invited to send one page of their writing to me for free feedback. And you get to decide what that one page is.
Your "one page" could be:
- The first 300-400 words of a story.
- A poem (40 lines or fewer).
- A query letter.
- Anything else you might consider a one-pager (including feedback on a personal website home page).
Your choice, so choose well.
How do I submit it?
This part is important, because I have a busy inbox and mislabeling something may increase its chances of getting lost in there. So do the following:
- Send an email to rbrewer@aimmedia.com
- Use subject line: 2023 Get Started Right Writing Challenge Page
- Include the name you used in the comments on the site (so I can verify you did participate in and complete the challenge)
- Either paste page in body of email OR include as a Word doc or PDF (or include a link if you go the website home page route)
- Send in by 11:59pm on January 20, 2023 (Atlanta GA time)
If you'd like to include a paragraph or two about what you've sent me, that would be appreciated. But try to keep it concise and complementary, because I won't be giving feedback on that part.
When Should I Hear Back?
This is my first time doing this challenge, so I'm really not sure how many one-pagers will make it to my inbox or how long it will take. But I've been doing other challenges long enough that I can set an initial goal of responding back to everyone by April 15.
Some people may hear back from me much earlier (maybe even within the week), while others may be closer to the deadline. If this happens, I assure you it has nothing to do with the quality of your page; just me working through all the submissions and giving everyone a fair share of my time.
And I believe that's it; so I look forward to hearing from everyone. And again, thank you so much for starting the year off with me.
