Plot Twist Story Prompts: New Power
Every good story needs a nice (or not so nice) turn or two to keep it interesting. This week, reveal a new power.
Plot twist story prompts aren't meant for the beginning or the end of stories. Rather, they're for forcing big and small turns in the anticipated trajectory of a story. This is to make it more interesting for the readers and writers alike.
Each week, I'll provide a new prompt to help twist your story. Find last week's prompt, Stuck Together, here.
Plot Twist Story Prompts: New Power
For today's prompt, reveal a new power for one of your characters. The new power can be provided to the protagonist or antagonist of the story, or even a secondary character. The power could be something completely new to the character or a power they've known about all along but kept concealed from others.
So what counts as a power? Of course, laser eyes and superhuman strength are obvious powers. But what about computational powers, the ability to pick locks, and/or powers of persuasion (some people have this power, while others don't). All these count as powers.
Of course, powers can heighten the suspense or drama of a situation. They can also get characters out of a tight spot or put them in a more perilous predicament than previously pondered (speaking of alliteration powers). And don't forget there's plenty of room for humor with powers, whether they're ridiculous or quite serious.
So reveal a power or two and see where your characters take you and your story.
