There's a lot going on at the Poetic Asides blog as far as challenges at the moment (which I'll dig into below), but I wanted to let everyone here know about my recent decision to self-publish a chapbook of poetry that will include 21 poems, many of which have been previously published in publications such as OCHO, MiPOesias, Otoliths, Barn Owl Review, DMQ Review, Words Dance, and more!
I'm tracking the progress of putting this collection together over at my personal blog. Here are the two posts so far:
I made the decision early on to make this a limited edition first printing of 101 copies--with each copy personally signed and numbered by myself. I gave the option for eager readers to get on a pre-order list (not actually taking payments until early 2011), and was surprised to see that 25 copies have already been claimed.

As far as Poetic Asides specific challenges happening, we've got no shortage of poetic activities to keep poets occupied during the holidays. For starters, there's the whole process of assembling and submitting your November Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge manuscripts. Click here to read the guidelines.
I've already received nearly 30 submissions. This number tends to shoot up the closer we get to the deadline. I'm looking forward to receiving them and then trying to pick a winning manuscript.

One of the nice things that developed this year is the regular rotation of WD Poetic Form Challenges that give poets a chance to play with poetic form and opportunity to possibly have your poem featured in an issue of Writer's Digest magazine.
Click here to check out the current challenge, which involves writing a sevenling.
Just paste your poem in the Comments section of the actual post. And feel free to write several sevenlings. Heck, write seven sevenlings even!

Writing an already established (even if new) poetic form is one kind of challenge. In a whole different league is the first ever Create Your Own Poetic Form Challenge with a deadline of February 15, 2011.
Click here to check out the guidelines, but the winning poet(s) and form will be featured on Poetic Asides and likely Writer's Digest, while also receiving some cool poetic gifts and prizes. Plus, your poetic form will gain traction by being featured online and in print.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm particularly stoked about this challenge, and I've already received more than 20 submissions.
