Minnesota Conservation Volunteer: Market Spotlight

For this week’s market spotlight, we look at Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, a bimonthly magazine focused on wild Minnesota.

Minnesota Conservation Volunteer is a bimonthly magazine published by the Department of Natural Resources. It covers Minnesota's conservation issues and outdoor news.

The editors say, "Readers include anglers and birders, hunters and hikers, bikers and paddlers, armchair adventurers and explorers. All public libraries and schools receive MCV."

What They're Looking For

Minnesota Conservation Volunteer seeks submissions for features (1,200-1,800 words), Field Notes (300-600 words), and essays (800-1,200 words). It should be focused on issues related to Minnesota's natural resources and outdoor recreation.

The editors say, "We receive more essays than feature pitches, so we publish only writers who fully understand essay mechanics and style. For all articles, keep your language clear and direct, use quotes and anecdotes liberally, and feel free to use first-person narration as a device for pulling your reader into the story."

How to Submit

Potential writers should query first either via email (keith.goetzman@state.mn.us) or by mail (Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul MN 55155-4046.
