For this week’s market spotlight, we look at New Letters, a literary publication that seeks poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.
New Letters is a literary journal associated with the University of Missouri-Kansas City that seeks "to discover, publish and promote the best and most exciting literary writing, wherever it might be found." They've recently won a National Magazine Award and have been reprinted frequently in the Best American series.
The editors say, "We publish and serve readers and writers worldwide."
This is a paying market, and they accept submissions all year long.
What They're Looking For
New Letters seeks literary writing in a variety of genres, including poetry, short stories, novellas, and nonfiction.
The editors say, "We generally publish short stories that are no more than 5,000 words; novellas that are no more than 30,000 words or roughly 60 pages; graphic short stories in comic spreads up to 10 pages and in color or black and white; and chapbooks that are no longer than 30 pages."
How to Submit
Potential writers can submit their work year round on their Submittable page, though there is a submission fee for non-subscribers.
