The Threepenny Review: Market Spotlight

For this week’s market spotlight, we look at The Threepenny Review, a quarterly literary publication of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.

The Threepenny Review is a quarterly literary publication that publishes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Established in 1980, this publication has offices in Berkeley and New York.

The editors say, "Each issue contains new poetry, short fiction, personal memoirs, and essays on books, film, theater, dance, music, architecture, visual arts, television, and politics. Of the total 6,000+ circulation, about 4,000 are long-term paid subscribers, making The Threepenny Review one of the largest literary journals in the country."

This market pays authors $400 per story or article and $200 per poem or Table Talk piece.

What They're Looking For

The Threepenny Review seeks poetry, fiction, essays, and reviews in various genres. While there are exceptions, articles should be 1,200 to 2,500 words; Table Talk should be 1,000 words or fewer; stories and memoirs can be up to 4,000 words; and poetry should be no longer than 100 lines.

The editors say, "We strongly recommend that you stay within our length limits."
