2020 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 17

For the 2020 November PAD Chapbook Challenge, poets write a poem a day in the month of November before assembling a chapbook manuscript in the month of December. Today’s two-for-Tuesday prompt is to write a nice and/or mean poem.

Today is another two-for-Tuesday prompt day. You can pick one prompt, pick both prompts, or even write one poem that attempts to do them both.

For today’s prompt:

  • Write a nice poem, and/or...
  • Write a mean poem.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at a Nice and/or Mean Poem:

“questions”

am i being mean when i refer
to the animal as the wild animal
am i being mean for recognizing
its howl as the howl of danger
when it could be the howl of pain
or perhaps even a howl of pleasure
why do i fear the wild animal
charging out of the darkness howling
& why do i feel it wants my blood
