2021 April PAD Challenge Countdown: T-minus 8

Poem along with the second ever April PAD Challenge Countdown, in which Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and a poem (to get things started) in the 10 days leading up to the 2021 April Poem-A-Day Challenge. For today’s prompt, write a fantasy poem.

For today’s prompt, write a fantasy poem. Of course, fantasy is a loaded term. Many people automatically think of swords and sorcery (Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter), but fantasy can involve several other topics. Many people harbor their own personal fantasies; for instance, I fantasize about being able to eat all I want without putting on weight (maybe that should've been my cause and effect poem yesterday). For another person, it may be the fantasy of winning the lottery or having the perfect day.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at a Fantasy Poem:

"beyond"

beyond the waste land you will see
a flock of birds dispersing fast
as from a dragon they will flee
throughout the waste of tennessee
where the mountain peaks are smoky
with a fog that can't ever last
beyond the waste land you will see
a flock of birds dispersing fast

(I used a modified triolet for this poem. Find 168 poetic forms to try here.)
