2024 April PAD Challenge: Day 4

Write a poem every day of April with the 2024 April Poem-A-Day Challenge. For today’s prompt, write a mistake poem.

It was fun watching all the music-related posts yesterday. Hopefully, today's prompt is not a mistake, because...

For today's prompt, write a mistake poem. Everyone makes mistakes. Yes, even that person standing in the corner shaking their head to the contrary. And even those people who don't admit to making mistakes have seen others make them. So whether it's the mistakes you've made, witnessed in others, etc., write a poem about it today.

BUT (and yes, I'm using a big "but" here) poem nicely to each other today. I would hate to remove anyone for getting into arguments about X, Y, or Z in the comments; that's why social media was created.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Later this month, be sure to check out the 3rd annual Writer's Digest Poetry Writing Virtual Conference with four great presentations put on by award-winning poets covering a variety of topics, including how to put together poetry collections and bring fresh insight to familiar ideas.

Here’s my attempt at a Mistake Poem:

"Self-Driving Cars"

I start driving the kids to their school
only to realize that I am a fool,
because I'm driving their mom to work,
so I pass by the school like a jerk

and take the scenic route as if planned
when really I'm just a distracted man
who lapsed into auto pilot mode
driving around my most precious load.
