2024 April PAD Challenge: Day 8

Write a poem every day of April with the 2024 April Poem-A-Day Challenge. For today’s prompt, write a major event poem.

Congratulations! We've made it through the first week of this poeming challenge and are working our way into week two.

For today's prompt, write a major event poem. The major event could be something historical. Or it could be something personal (like a wedding or graduation). Whatever the major event, make sure you get some major poeming down today.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Later this month, be sure to check out the 3rd annual Writer's Digest Poetry Writing Virtual Conference with four great presentations put on by award-winning poets covering a variety of topics, including how to put together poetry collections and bring fresh insight to familiar ideas.

Here’s my attempt at a Major Event Poem:

"Dear Moon"

How foolish we must seem
crowding together for fun
to watch you silently
pass between us and the sun,
inspiring short poems
and many planned lovers' trysts:
You call it existing,
and we call it an eclipse.
