Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 638

Every Wednesday, Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and an example poem to get things started on the Poetic Asides blog. This week, write a delayed poem.

I want to apologize to all the early birds as I usually have my weekly prompt up earlier in the morning, but my delay actually inspired this week's prompt.

For this week's prompt, write a delayed poem. There are a range of delays people can experience on any given day. Maybe a friend (or public transportation) is running late, or you hit every single red light between you and your destination while driving. Or maybe the delay is planned. Not sure whether you should delay or not delay in your poeming this week, but have fun regardless of your process.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

It's free, easy, and the comments (for the most part) don't require manual approval (though I check from time to time for those that do).

Here’s my attempt at a Delayed Poem:

“a notice about notices,” by Robert Lee Brewer

this is just a notice
about our notices
and how we noticed
that it's just not
sending out notices
so until further notice
keep looking for notices
that we hope you'll notice
when you're notified.

(Today's poem inspired by the FAA pause on all domestic flight departures apparently caused by their "notice system" being down.)
