Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 645

Every Wednesday, Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and an example poem to get things started on the Poetic Asides blog. This week, write a push poem.

Today, I'm starting a new writing challenge: the 10-day 2023 Character-Building Challenge. So if you're interested in creating some characters for future stories, feel encouraged to play along over there for the first 10 days of March.

For this week's prompt, write a push poem. The poem could be about a push pin or a red button to push (or not to push). Of course, people constantly push the limits and push things (like shopping carts) and people (like in mosh pits) around. And my favorite might be this Salt-N-Pepa classic: "Push It."

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at a Push Poem:

“pushy,” by Robert Lee Brewer

when push comes to shove
i want none of the above

because i love don't fight
and want all to be right

but when push comes to shove
most forget about love

even though it's not right
they descend into fights

so when push comes to shove
please don't abandon love
