Jo Salas is a New Zealand-born writer of fiction and nonfiction now living in upstate New York. Her novel Mrs. Lowe-Porter will be published by JackLeg Press in 2024. Her earlier novel, Dancing with Diana, was published in 2015 by Codhill Press. Jo’s short fiction, published in literary journals and anthologies, has won awards and a nomination for the Pushcart Prize. Jo’s nonfiction articles have appeared in The Guardian, Storytelling Magazine, The Witness, and elsewhere. She has written extensively about Playback Theatre, an interactive theatre practice which she cofounded. Books include Improvising Real Life: Personal Story in Playback Theatre, now published in 11 languages; Do My Story, Sing My Song: Music Therapy and Playback Theatre with Troubled Children; Half of My Heart/La Mitad de Mi Corazón: True Stories Told by Immigrants, co-edited with Leslie Gauna: and Personal Stories in Public Spaces: Essays by Playback Theatre’s Founders, co-authored with Jonathan Fox.
